The “Academy” Tract is located south of N. C. Hwy. 214 (Sam Potts Hwy.) and west of S. R. # 1914 ( Honey Hill Road).  Access to tract is by way of a deeded 30.0' wide easement from Honey Hill Road.

The prominent soils of this tract consist of the following:

  1. Johnston (Js) - Loam, Frequently Flooded
  2. Muckalee (Mk) - Sandy Loam, Frequently Flooded

These soils are very poorly drained along major drainageways on flood plains throughout the county.  Permeability is moderate; however, the seasonal high water table is near or above the surface from early in winter to late in spring.

This tract adjoins the “run” of the White Marsh east of Whiteville, North Carolina.  It consists of excellent duck hunting habitat.
